Entering Y1 offers the challenge of the National Curriculum, a transition to an everyday school timetable and being part of Key Stage One. Children in Y1 will have the opportunity to have similar experiences to Foundation Stage but also experience more structured lessons in Maths, Literacy and other subjects.
Our first topic is called “Jurassic Forest” where learning is focused on Dinosaurs. Learning about this topic will involve Art, Science, Geography and History. Home Learning will often relate to the topic and Y1 children will benefit from parental support when completing tasks at home. In addition, reading at home is vital at this age and a brand new reading diary will be sent home shortly.
P.E. is also an essential part of our timetable. Children should have kits available on all days but lessons in Y1 are scheduled on Mondays and Wednesdays from Monday 9th September.
Our first educational visit is scheduled for Friday October 18th and details will be released in the coming weeks.
Miss Dunleavy and I are looking forward to meeting you all again soon.
