Welcome back to a very exciting year – there is a lot to look forward to. We begin with our fantastic trip to the caves of Castleton, which should be a great introduction to the topic of extreme environments.
Y4 gives children an opportunity to learn a variety of new skills and to develop their growing independence – both personally and in the classroom. We are lucky enough to start swimming lessons this term and all children will be attending lessons at Hillsborough pool on a weekly basis. The coach will be picking us up just after 9 am every Tuesday and bringing us back around break time. There will be another PE slot during the week, which will be either Thursday or Friday this term.
Another new skill, which will be introduced to the children, is cornet playing and I am particularly looking forward to taking part in these lessons, which should hopefully be on Thursdays. Cornets are provided for all children, who will then take part in a lesson from a specialist music teacher.
We expect all children to complete a piece of homework every week and details of this will be put into learning logs. Children will be able to choose from a variety of tasks and we will look at them as a class every Friday. There may well be additional tasks provided but details will be clearly given to the children when necessary. We do expect that children learn times tables and spellings when given to them too.
Reading at home is still vital and parental involvement and encouragement makes all the difference. New reading diaries will be provided shortly to be used at home and in school.
We look forward to working with you and your children this year and hope to have an interesting and excitin time.
